About Tangible Hope
WHO IS TANGIBLE HOPE MINISTRIES?
- Tangible Hope began in 2016 with our Cards For Prisoners program as a 501c3. A pen pal program between incarcerated men and women and community members. Offering encouragement through cards and letters – truly giving tangible hope.
- We had the intention of growing other divisions of Tangible Hope, such as re entry assistance, community awareness events, and programs and events for teens involved with the criminal justice system through juvenile detention centers throughout Michigan.
- Presented the Kent County Juvenile Detention Center with $2500 of equipment to run their Esports program as well as Uber/Uber Eats gift cards for kids in the program. This program provides the kids with opportunities for college scholarships as well as cash prizes.
- Presented the same items above to the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Center and began working with them to run this program at their facility.
- Worked with the Kent County Correctional Facility to provide 100 bags of various hygiene items to pass out at their annual Golden Ticket event in Grand Rapids.
- Fully sponsored Reach The Forgotten to pay expenses for their five-hour Open Arms training program to 45 of their jail chaplains in Michigan. These chaplains, once trained will begin the training in their own community.
- Presented Tangible Hope’s new “My Journey In Reverse” event at the Lewis Walker Institute at WMU. Premiered our new video about a 15 year old incarcerated for 45 years before receiving a surprise parole hearing. How would his life be different today if we had reached him at 12 years old and not 60? This was a two hour event with a key note speaker, a local hip hop artist, and a panel discussion including 5 individuals affected by incarceration between the ages 23-64.
- Introduced our new Living Forward program to returning citizens and others in the community desiring a change in their life and a second chance. This is twice a week, four-week class taught by a formerly incarcerated individual, released over 10 years ago living a successful, changed life. We also are providing employment opportunities through a local agency that specializes in hiring those with barriers to employmen
- Provided prizes for games at a picnic we co-hosted for returned citizens.
- Had a spring “pen pal palooza” card event in March, sending Easter/Spring cards to inmates in Federal prisons.
There is more ahead, that’s just the beginning! With your prayer and financial support, we are looking forward to building and growing Tangible Hope!
Mission
Motivated by the teaching of Jesus, Tangible Hope Ministries endeavors to show unconditional love to people overlooked by society to inspire hope, dignity and a path to restoration with family and community.
Vision
Tangible Hope Ministries envisions a world where no life is defined by its darkest moment. We partner with local churches and organizations to offer second chances, build community, and share the power of tangible hope.
Values
At the heart of our prison ministry is a deep commitment to restoration, hope, and the belief that no life is beyond redemption. These values guide everything we do:
Transformation
We believe in the power of Christ to restore and renew lives. Every person, no matter their past, is created in God’s image and worthy of redemption.
Radical Grace and Acceptance
We extend unconditional love and acceptance to the incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, and their families—believing no one is beyond hope.
Restorative Justice
We promote healing over punishment. We seek to restore relationships between individuals, families, communities, and God.
Church-Based Community
We believe the local church is the ideal environment for long-term healing, accountability, and discipleship after incarceration.
Dignity and Respect
We treat every individual with dignity, honoring their story, worth, and God-given potential regardless of their past.
Collaboration with the Community
We partner with churches, families, and community organizations to create a strong support network for those affected by incarceration.
Integrity and Accountability
We operate with transparency, financial responsibility, and a commitment to honoring those we serve and those who support us.
Prayer and Spiritual Dependence
We rely on God’s guidance and strength in all we do, praying consistently for those behind bars and those returning home.
